Go-ahead to enlarge car park (Nov, 2009)

20/Nov/2009

Go-ahead to enlarge car park. Plans to improve parking at Leuchars station have been boosted after Fife Council's environment, enterprise and transport committee yesterday backed proposals to improve facilities for travellers between Fife and Dundee.

Members backed plans to add 100 spaces in a bid to urge commuters to ditch their cars and take the train across the Tay.

Costing around £635,000, it is hoped the development could make a valuable contribution to cutting carbon emissions and reduce congestion in Dundee city centre.

The 150 spaces are under strain after an increase in train services between Edinburgh and Aberdeen, and a report this year identifying an increased number of parking spaces as a worthwhile investment.

Funding for the plan will now have to be identified.

Committee members also agreed to back plans for a possible park and ride scheme linking north-east Fife and Tayside.

Two sites have been identified - Forgan roundabout and at Landfall, both off the A92 - however there is as yet no funding in place for such a scheme.
