Team in rowing challenge (Nov, 2009)
27/Nov/2009
Team in rowing challenge. It is full steam ahead for a hardy group from RAF Leuchars who began an endurance challenge this morning inside Edinburgh's Waverly station.
Over 30 volunteers from the Fife base are taking part in a gruelling charity rowing event that got underway at 4am and will continue non-stop until midnight.
In full view of passengers the group will take it in turns, to spend 30 minutes on a specially set-up rowing machine and aim to raise between £1,000 and £2,000 from generous passers-by.
All money donated will go towards this year's Extra Special Children's Christmas Party at RAF Leuchars on December 2, organised by Station Charities Action Group (SCAG).
The party will be for 120 special needs children and their helpers.
SCAG also assists charities including Special Needs Awareness in Leuchars, CHAS and Erskine House as well as the RAF charities RAFA (royal Air Force Association) and the RAF Benevolent Fund.
