Leuchars pharmacy sickens village GP
Leuchars pharmacy sickens village GP. Leuchars GP, Dr Bryan Johnston, has confirmed that he is leaving his practice and has blamed his decision on the opening of the pharmacy in the village earlier this year.
Dr Johnston will resign from March 31st 2011 to take up a position in Australia.
In a letter to is patients, he wrote, "My sole reason for resigning is because of the decision to allow a pharmacy to open in Leuchars". He continued; "It is too high a personal cost to be forced into the situatuation of watching 20 years of my working life being dismantled for the commercial benefit of people out with our community".
Dr Johnston said "if we lose the income from dispensing, which was roughly half the total received by the practice, we have to downsize considerably, losing a doctor and possibly half our staff"
James Semple of TLC ? one of the original three partners in the Leuchars pharmacy said "I can only assume that ultimately, I am being blamed for Dr Johnston?s resignation. I suppose that this is possibly true. The opening of a pharmacy in Leuchars has undoubtedly affected Dr Johnston?s business income. If this is why he has resigned, it is obviously my fault"
