St Athernase


Today after the church service, whilst the elders were counting the collection and several church members were still in the church, stones were thrown at the leaded windows in the Apse and 2 were badly damaged (photo attached). Apparently the vandalism was caused by youths

St Athernase is regarded as one of the best preserved Romanesque churches in Scotland which has been a place of continuous worship for 900 years The present building is reckoned to date from the mid-12 th century. At present St Athernase Regeneration Team are working hard fundraising to safeguard this magnificent Church

The Community Council are working hard to beautify the village and acts of vandalism like this will not be tolerated
