Saturday 20 Aug sees Sir Ming Campbell officially open the site/Pathway at 11:00.  We are encouraging all the children in the village to come down and plant a tree and leave their lasting legacy in the village.  There has been a lot of interest generated by the goings on at the old railway crossing site and to that end, a portfolio of phoitos has been taken to record the project to date.

  Sunday, 14th

the Community Council has been driving the regeneration project with the help of the Fife Ranger Service, RAF Leuchars Conservation Group, local residents and 71 Engineer Regiment.  The TA Regiment have had the task of clearing old bushes and debris, after local farmer harry Black had cleared most of the vegetation with his flail mower.  The TA have also created a meandering pathway which crosses the tracks at a purpose built wooden crossing.  There is an Action day on Sunday 14 Aug at 13:00 when a litter pick will be carried out nd holes dug for the 400 or so trees which will be planted the follwing Saturday.  Everyone in the village is invited to come along and help and bring a spade!

June 2011 Sunday, 19th

The Leuchars Community Council has decided, with agreement from Fife Council, to regenerate the old railway siding that lies just beyond Aitken Place on Station Road.  The area is currently overgrown, untidy and a general eyesore to anyone travelling along that busy stretch of road. As part of the Community Councils ongoing project of trying to keep 'Leuchars Looking Lovely', you may have noticed the new addition of two stone wall 'gateways' as you enter the village from Guardbridge.  This was possible due to the generosity of the Site Manger of the quarry at Bamullo and the services of a local builder.  The hanging baskets will shortly be hung on the lamp-posts on Station road and outside local businesses and some of the children from the Primary School have already been down to help re-plant the 'Bee-Hive' and Planters near the roundabout.

In order to kick-start the land regeneration project, the Community Council has organised an 'Action/Launch Day'.  This will be held on the 19th of June at 13:00, meeting at the old crossing point near the 'grey box'.  The aim is to litter pick, clear any light scrub, remove the old fence and plant some of the 420 trees we received from the Forestry Commission.  So far our volunteers include the Community Council, RAF Leuchars Station Conservation Team, Fife Ranger, 71 Sqn RE (TA) and the Leuchars Youth Project.  We are looking for more volunteers of all ages who are willing to spare a couple of hours.  All we ask is that you bring a pair of gloves, some sturdy footwear and a sense of wanting to be involved in your community.  Please note that ALL children MUST be accompanied by an adult.  The goal of the project is to create an area which will be pleasant on the eye, functional for all and kind to nature.

Hope to see lots of you on the day

Kind regards

Mark Sharp
